The 5LINX® Family Comes Through
5LINX® has been built on five core values; Freedom, Opportunity, Excellence, Integrity and Success. However, in light of recent events, it could be argued that the co-founders should add compassion to the list. Many people say that the 5LINX® community is like a family, and recently, the 5LINX® community pulled together to save one.
Imagine leaving your home, your family, and everything you know in order to come to another country. Now imagine, six months later, getting a long distance call that your 47 year-old mother's organs are shutting down, and your home country does not have the medicine to help her. You cannot go home for another six months, due to your refugee status, and any approval to leave before then will take at least thirty days to be granted, if ever.
Pritam Kandel, a 5LINX® corporate employee, found himself in that exact position over the 4th of July weekend.
Now imagine that it is Thursday afternoon, and you are anticipating one more day of work and then a long weekend of travel, family, relaxation and fireworks. You will finally turn your blackberry off (or at least the email notification). But, one of your co-workers has just received devastating news. What would you do?
Members of the 5LINX® team faced this situation over the 4th of July weekend.
More than thirty members of the 5LINX® team gave up all thoughts of a long relaxing, holiday weekend, and spent the next several days in the office. Members of every department frantically searched for a doctor to write a prescription for Pritam's mother, a way to get the medicine to Nepal, and a government office to grant him approval to travel back to Nepal. Each time they thought one component of the equation figured out, another obstacle came up.
Members of the 5LINX® team finally managed to get the medicine to Chicago, where the airline stopped it because it was an unapproved shipment, and was ready to send it back to Rochester, NY. That is when one of our representatives from Chicago, SVP Frank Kimbrough, found himself on the phone in the middle of a Saturday night function. Without question, he got into his car and picked up the medicine at the Chicago O'Hare airport, and brought it to FedEx, where he finally got it shipped to Dubai, and ultimately to Nepal. The entire ordeal lasted thirty six hours.
Pritam's mother is now in stable condition, and Pritam has permission to return to Nepal. Although she is not yet out of the woods, Catholic Family Charities has sponsored Pritam and is attempting to get his mother taken to a better hospital.
Such herculean effort from so many people is truly remarkable. It is a testament to the core values of the company, and the people associated with it. Although the co-founders probably won't add a 6th core value, Pritam's story re-affirms the belief that 5LINX® is more than simply a company, it is a family.
5LINX® Corporate Blog
5LINX® is pleased to announce that we now have our own official corporate blog! Why are we blogging? We think that blogging is a great way to reach not only those who are working within the 5LINX® family, but those outside of 5LINX® as well. We currently have highly successful Facebook and Twitter pages which bring a lot to our company and those involved; we are consistently helping each other, sharing knowledge and experiences about the 5LINX® business, all while corporate provides news, updates and photos from all 5LINX events!
These social media websites have proven to be a huge success, but what they do not provide is a more personal, relaxed area in which we can dive into more detail about the personal side of the 5LINX® corporate family. The blog will be in the hands of Chris Navin, our field operations and social networking specialist, who will be regularly adding content to the blog. So go take a look and get to know him! Not only will the blog allow for conversation without character and space limitations, but we can embed videos which allows us to update regularly with guest posts and video blog posts (vlog posts) from all of our co-founders, SVPs, PSVPs, and even those who work in the corporate office at all levels in the company!
Our goal with our corporate blog is to give you a look at who we are behind the business and what we are personally doing in the corporate office in order to make 5LINX® the best experience possible for everyone.
